Nicki La Rosa ~An Abstract Artist with a Gratitude Agenda. Welcome and THANK YOU!
A Free Thinking, Tree-Thanking, Buddhist Artist. Let's do This!
I painted Victory Candy when I was working at the Art Directors Guild in Los Angeles in 2009.
It caught the eye of the manager of the Lankershim Arts Center in NoHo (North Hollywood) who then asked me to paint murals in the bathrooms for the arts center! She said she wanted the center to look “artsy!” I was so grateful for the opportunity. I was giddy!
It took me just under 55 hours.
Veteran Scenic Artist and Gallery 800 Curator Denis Olsen gave me some great guidance and tools for large scale jobs like that. It was a blast and the murals stayed up for two years! Extra awesome was the exposure of my work to the Production Designers, Art Directors, Scenic Artists, Illustrators and Set Designers of big Hollywood films (members of the Art Directors Guild) whom I respect immensely! Dreams come true…
Sunset Singularity (Indian Rocks Beach, FL Summer, 2014)
on exhibit 2/12 – 3/12/2015 Bamboozle Tea Lounge
Indian Rocks Beach provides some of the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve ever seen (and I’ve lived in both California and Hawaii)! This shot is one of a series taken during the summer of 2014, my first summer back in Florida, where I grew up splashing about in these very waters. The clouds in the upper left look a lot like a large dolphin and calf – or maybe a whale-dolphin hybrid if there were such a magnificent creature.
“Freedom” was originally commissioned for the break room of my former employer in Los Angeles, CA. I poured my heart and soul into this piece (as I did my former job – which was a wonderful experience for several years). When the wonderful times had drawn to an end, me and my painting, “Freedom” hit the road and didn’t look back. When I gaze at this piece, I look back on that period of time with fond memories and a sense of soaring freedom from a situation that no longer served my soul.
